One of the biggest disadvantages to remodeling a bathroom is the cost of doing it.  Exactly what it will cost depends on the amount of work you wish to have done.  The more you want remodeled, the more it is going to eat into your wallet.  Besides the cost of fixtures and supplies, you will also need to look at some of the other costs.  If you choose to have your bathroom professionally remodeled, you will need to pay a contractor, and that can be quite pricey.  While a professional contractor will produce better results, the fact is you will certainly pay for those better results.

Aside from the cost of remodeling the bathroom, you will also want to consider the amount of time it will probably take.  How long it will take just depends on how much work you decide to have done.  Of course, if you are just having a sink replaced, it will take considerably less time than if you choose to have the entire bathroom remodeled.  If you hire a professional contractor, the bathroom can be finished in a great deal less time than if you remodel your own bathroom, because a contractor has experience, and knows what he is doing.  If you do your own work, you may have to fit the time for it into your already busy schedule.

Another possible disadvantage to remodeling your bathroomis what it can do to your home.  While a quality bathroom remodeling job can add to the value of your home, a poor job can also take away from the value.  While there are no guarantees that a good bathroom remodeling will increase the value of your home, it usualy does.  However, you can almost guarantee if your bathroom is remodeled, and it doens't look good afterwards, it is going to negatively effect the price you can sell the home for, because potential buyers are going to be considering how much they will have to spend to bring the bathroom up to their standards.

As mentioned before, if you want to remodel your bathroom, you can either do the work yourself, or you can hire a professional to do it for you.   There are certainly more disadvantages to doing the remodeling yourself.  Whenever you are doing any remodeling job, there is always the risk of injury.  Even a professional contractor can injure himself, but it's much more likely that you will.  If you are injured, you may not be able to get back to the work for awhile.  Meanwhile your bathroom is torn apart, and probably unusable.  The more you know about what you are doing, the less likely you are to be injured, so be certain to get as much knowledge as you can, before you begin remodeling the bathroom.

As you may have seen, there are many disadvantages to remodeling a bathroom, and while it may seem it simply isn't worth the effort, there are also some advantages, such as the possibility of increasing the value of your home.  Whether or not you remodel your bathroom is a decision only you can make.
